24 Dec How does Holistic Wellness and Creative Arts corelate?
The relationship between holistic wellness and creative arts is multidimensional. Both of these aspects contribute & complement each other in promoting overall well-being. I thought of sharing few of below areas on this;
- Expressive Outlet: Engaging in creative arts provides individuals with a means of self-expression. Whether it is through visual arts, music, writing, or any other creative form, the creative expression is a powerful tool for processing emotions, thoughts, and experiences. This act of self-expression can contribute to release of emotions and promote well-being.
- Mind-Body Connection: One of my favorites… Movement and Dance modality of Creative Arts in particular directly contributes to the physical well-being by promoting flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular health. Whereas these also engage the mind while do so thoroughly as a result of which fostering a strong mind-body connection.
- Stress Reduction: Art Therapy as it is famous for reducing stress, helps engaging the person in creative flow. During the process of creating art, an enhanced meditative state can be achieved which helps individuals focus on the present moment, promoting mindfulness.
- Holistic Healing: An Integrative Approach encompasses the physical, mental, and emotional state, hence a holistic healing process. Creative arts can play a pivotal role in holistic healing simultaneously. Such as music therapy, that has been proved scientifically to have supported mental health, while activities like painting or sculpting can engage the motor, senses and promote relaxation.
- Social Connection: Participating in creative arts often involves social interaction and collaboration. Being part of a creative community or group can foster a sense of belonging, social support, and connection at a deeper level, knowing that the individual is not alone in this journey. This increase their self esteem and confidence in facing their own weaknesses and to improvise.
- Spiritual Exploration: Creative arts often involve the exploration of symbolism and meaning indirectly. This can be a way of spiritual exploration for individuals seeking a deeper connection to themselves and the world around them, leading to self discovery.
I believe, the correlation between holistic wellness and creative arts lies in the ability of creative activities to address multiple dimensions of overall well-being, that includes emotional, physical, social, and cognitive aspects of humans. Such co-existence cannot be ignored while going though various phases of our lives, hence to be approached more sensibly.
